Responsibilities

Detailed Responsibilities:

1. Financial Recording & Reporting

  1.  Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in compliance with applicable accounting standards, including general ledger entries, cashbooks, bank statements and reconciliations, payroll records, budgets, and related documentation.

  2.  Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external use.

2. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  1. Assist in the process of payments to suppliers and service providers in accordance with approved documentation and agreed payment terms.

  2. Verify the accuracy and completeness of invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documents prior to processing.

  3.  Maintain updated records of accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely reconciliation and follow-up.

  4.  Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies related to disbursements.

3. Banking & Reconciliation

  1.  Assist in the preparations of regular bank and cash reconciliations to ensure the project’s cashbook balances align with bank statements.

  2.  Manage petty cash, ensuring proper documentation and timely replenishment.

  3.  Accurately record all bank transactions.

4. Payroll & Statutory Compliance

  1.  Assist in the preparations of monthly payroll in accordance with approved salary structures and policies.

  2.  Ensure timely filing and payment of all statutory obligations, including ZRA, ZSSF, SDL, PAYE, and other relevant deductions.

  3. Maintain compliance with applicable Tanzanian and Zanzibarian tax and Labor laws, and liaise with relevant authorities as needed.

  4. Assist in the preparations of, and submission of monthly payroll-related reports and statutory returns accurately and on time.

5. Budgeting

  1. Assist in the preparation of specific budgets, as well as budget monitoring reports.

  2.  Track actual expenditures against approved budgets, identify variances, and report findings to management for decision-making.

6. Audit Support

  1. Assist in preparing of audit schedules, supporting documents, and financial records as requested.

  2.  Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits by providing necessary information and ensuring timely responses to queries.

7. Administrative Support (as delegated)

  1. Provide administrative assistance to the Finance and Administration Manager as required

  2. Maintain organized and up-to-date filing systems for financial documents and compliance records.

  3. And carry out any additional tasks as delegated by your immediate supervisor from time to time.

Educational requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
      • CPA/ACCA (completed or in progress) is an added advantage

Experience requirements

2–4 years of relevant accounting experience

Additional requirements

      • Strong knowledge of Zanzibarian/Tanzanian financial laws and tax requirements

      • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, Sage) and MS Excel
      • Detail-oriented with solid analytical and communication skills
