Responsibilities

1. Transportation Duties

  1. Safely transport project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors to and from meetings, field sites, and other official destinations.

  2. Ensure punctual pick-up and drop-off services as per the project schedule.

  3. Assist passengers with loading and unloading luggage or equipment when needed.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Management

  1. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.

  2. Monitor fuel, oil, water, brake fluid, tire pressure, and other essential systems regularly.

  3. Arrange timely servicing and maintenance of the vehicle, and report any faults or mechanical issues immediately.

  4. Keep the vehicle clean (interior and exterior) at all times.

3. Recordkeeping and Documentation

  1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logs including mileage, fuel usage, servicing, and trip records.

  2. Ensure that all vehicle documents (insurance, registration, inspection reports) are valid and available in the vehicle.

  3. Submit vehicle reports and logbooks to the supervisor regularly.

4. Compliance and Safety

  1. Adhere strictly to Tanzanian/Zanzibarian road safety laws and organizational driving policies.

  2. Follow established protocols in case of accidents, incidents, or vehicle breakdowns.

  3. Ensure the safety of passengers, equipment, and cargo at all times.

5. Logistical and Administrative Support

  1. Assist with the delivery and collection of documents, parcels, office supplies, and other items as requested.

  2. Support logistics during events, workshops, and field visits (e.g., helping set up or move supplies).

  3. Run office errands such as banking, picking up supplies, or dropping off official letters.

6. Professional Conduct

  1. Maintain a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and discretion while representing the project.

  2. Maintain good working relationships with staff, partners, and community members.

  3. Demonstrate reliability, integrity, and responsibility in all duties.

7. Flexibility and Availability

  1. Be available for occasional extended hours, weekend work, or travel to remote areas as project activities require.

  2. Remain flexible and willing to take on additional support tasks when not driving.

  3. Perform any other duties as assigned, or as may arise from time to time, in support of project operations.

Educational requirements

    Minimum of a secondary school certificate (Form IV or higher). Additional training in driving, road safety, or vehicle maintenance is an advantage.

    Experience requirements

        1. At least 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with private company, NGOs, international organizations, or development projects.
        1. Proven experience transporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including expatriates and local staff.
        1. Familiarity with driving in both urban and rural environments across Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

    Additional requirements

        1. Basic proficiency in English and Kiswahili for clear communication with both local and international staff.
        1. Ability to follow instructions and report issues clearly and promptly.
