Responsibilities

CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Our client, a multinational operating in the microfinance sector, is seeking a Chief Accountant to support the strong growth of its operations in Douala, Cameroon

DUTIES

·       Have a proper understanding of all transactions in all the General Ledger Accounts.

·       Collect study and analyze all bank statements and reconciliation of all bank and League Accounts.

·       Analyze all bank standing orders or deductions at source for treatment into the software by the accounts clerk.

·       Updating of all the accounts and ensuring that all the receipts and backing documents are properly filed.

·    Updating the asset register and keeping a proper file of such assets regularly, and giving reference numbers to any new assets acquired.

·       Preparation of monthly financial statement, budgetary control, ratio analysis, coverage report, etc, to the board and copies forwarded to the League after deliberation.

·       Reconcile the cashier daily before closing.

·       Ensures that cash receipt and payment vouchers are raised for every cash transaction that is done at the credit union.

·       Assist in drafting periodic management reports and keeping the Board of Directors informed of all credit union operations, problems, and possible solutions. Review financial results and report the key trends and concurrences that underline these results, together with advice on which problem should be prioritized.

·       Supervises all staff under his/her department and actively participates in their induction and on-the-job training.

·       Attending to members with cases that cannot be handled over the counter.

·       Reconciliation of League, Bank, and third-party accounts monthly.

·       Maintains a good relationship with co-workers, management, elected officials, and the general membership.

·       Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Manager. 

Educational requirements

·       Minimum Bachelor’s +4 years (Master’s level) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Experience requirements

·       At least 7 years of professional experience, including 3 years in a Chief Accountant role,

·       Strong experience in general and analytical accounting, as well as taxation

Additional requirements

·       Proven ability to lead and manage accounting teams

·       Excellent knowledge of the regulatory and operational environment in microfinance
